Keeping It Real - Happy Mother’s Day

Written by Blair Fjeseth

This year marks my 11th year as a mom. For most of those years, I’ve had the privilege of writing this column—sharing my adventures, asking for advice during my toughest challenges, and building a village of parents across our state.

Together, we’ve learned a lot about parenting—mainly that just when you think you know what you’re doing, you realize you don’t. Every child is different. Every situation is different. And you, as a parent, are constantly evolving.

But one thing I do know for sure is this: Mothers are the heartbeat of our society.

Read it again—and say it loudly for the moms, the step-in moms and the ones holding it all together in the back: Mothers are the heartbeat of our society.

And no, I'm not just talking about the late-night feedings or the endless laundry; I've come to realize that was the easiest part of parenting.

I'm talking about the deep impact mothers and maternal figures have on shaping individuals and communities. These roles transcend merely caring for our own children; they're about nurturing the future itself.

Mothers are the architects of empathy, the keepers of traditions and the champions of resilience. They embody quiet strength that supports families through life's challenges and gentle encouragement that fuels dreams.

It's about the moms who birthed you, the moms who raised you, and the stand-in moms who had your back even when you didn't know it.

Our influence extends beyond our homes. Mothers shape the values of our society, teaching kindness, respect and perseverance to future leaders, innovators and caregivers. They lead by example, demonstrating the power of empathy and the importance of community.

As I navigate the joys and challenges of motherhood, I'm in awe of the countless mothers who have walked this path before me and those who walk beside me. Each mother's journey is unique, yet together, we form a tapestry of strength and compassion that enriches the world.

So, this Mother's Day, let's celebrate not only the mothers who have shaped our lives but also the enduring legacy of love and wisdom they pass down through generations. Let's honor their sacrifices, cherish their guidance and strive to mirror their unwavering spirit of love.

To all the moms—past, present and future—thank you for your boundless love and immeasurable impact.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Montana Parent magazine village.
