Yikes! oh. . . I meant, Yay! My kid started preschool.

The fall semester is really underway and everyone is settling into their new routines. I thought it was time to ask how things are going.

For me, it's exciting, happy and nerve-wracking. My son started pre-school recently. After buckling him into his car seat on the first day, kissing him and waving to him and his papa, I had a moment. I sulked back into the house, made myself a cup of coffee and almost called them to give one final, "you're gonna do great!"  I didn't call, I merely cleaned the house from top to bottom. What can I say? Busy work is therapeutic.

The good news? He loves it and my nerves have settled. I couldn't have been more proud than when he came home after that first day with a cutout gingerbread man that he signed himself! Tears came to my eyes.

I have been a stay-at-home mommy since he was born. It's not everyone's dream but it was mine and I am so very thankful that I have been able to do so. It's been an amazing, gratifying, hilarious and challenging time. I have grown and honed skills right along side him. But, I realized that he needs other teachers than me. The preschool teachers who got him to write his name are the proof of that. . . I'd been trying to teach him to write for over a year now.

How did you decide when your child started school or preschool? Age? Readiness? If your kid has a late summer birthday did that make a difference? When I was a kid, kindergarten was only half-days. What do you think about the current full-day schedule?     We'd really like to hear your stories. Join the conversation!
