Yellowstone Ballet Company (YBC) presents the beloved fairy tale classic, Cinderella, at the Willson Auditorium in Bozeman at 4pm on both Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th.  An artistic collaboration with Bozeman’s The Dance Center and Main Street Dance Theatre, YBC’s production of Cinderella features three professional guest artists with an area cast of forty dancers, combining delightful music, magical costumes, and exquisite dancing with an endearing mix of comedy and poignancy for the enjoyment of all ages.

To introduce young children to the performing arts while being affordable for the entire family, YBC is offering one free child ticket with every adult ticket purchase. All children who attend the ballet also receive a free Prince or Princess crown.

First debuted at the Boshoi Theater of Moscow in 194, Cinderella has since made its way into the repertoire of every major ballet company. YBC has performed the ballet twice, in 1990 and 2002. YBC’s Artistic Director Kathleen Rakela, who performed the lead role of Cinderella in YBC’s first production says,  “What a rare treat for our community to experience this magical story ballet with exquisite professional dancers performing the leads right here in Bozeman.”

Dancing the role of Cinderella is Lilit Hogtanian, who graduated from the Academie de Danse Princesse Grace in Monaco on full scholarship.  In 2012, she joined State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara, quickly rising to the rank of principal dancer, performing lead roles in The Nutcracker, Snow White, and Waltz Fantasie, and participating in the Monaco Dance Forum. At fifteen, Lilit won a gold medal at the Youth American Ballet Competition in Long Beach, competed at the prestigious Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, and was featured on the cover of Dance Spirit Magazine.

Joining Lilit as the Prince is Parsifal Pittendorfer, an alumnus of Yellowstone Ballet School in Livingston. Pittendorfer trained on scholarship at the San Francisco Ballet, Orlando Ballet and Ellison Ballet of New York before joining State Street Ballet last year. He looks forward to dancing the role of the Prince here in his home area.

Tatsuyuki Yoshimura dances the role of the Prince’s Valet. Originally from Japan, Tatsuyuki trained under Mika Ogura. Accepted at the Atlantic City Ballet in 2008, he danced in A Midsummer Night's Dream, ACB Repertoire and Dracula, the Blue Bird from Sleeping Beauty, the Pas de Deux from Concerto Vivaldi, and the lead in Huapongo at Kennedy Plaza.  He has also been featured as a guest artist with Kiyoko Murase Ballet in Japan and has a BA degree in Economics from Aoyamagakuin University.

Five area dancers perform major roles in Cinderella. Sabrina Lee, a professional modern dancer and filmmaker in the Bozeman area, will perform the role of Cinderella’s StepMother. Broadway dance instructor Sarah Skofield performs the role of Kubyshka (Dumpy), one of the stepsisters.  Fiona Lee, a young and upcoming dancer from Yellowstone Ballet School will dance the role of Kudyshka (Skinny), the second stepsister; Lee has trained for the last two summers with American Ballet Theatre and recently received a full scholarship to the School of American Ballet in New York. Karen Stengel, from Main Street Dance Theatre, will dance the role of the Fairy Godmother.  Jackie Englehart, of The Dance Center, performs as the Dance Master.

Forty dancers from The Dance Center, Yellowstone Ballet School, and Main Street Dance Theatre complete the cast, performing as princesses, fairies, birds, butterflies, and mice - and even a Unicorn!

This production of Cinderella is generously sponsored by Neuralynx, Inc. of Bozeman, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, and KBOZ.
