And the secret ingredient is. . . Fanta.

I know, I know. . . you don't want to give your kids a whole bunch of sugar and artificial flavor. I don't like to either but, there is something really amazing about this cake (I made cupcakes.) It's super moist and not overly sweet. Plus, although I fancy myself to be a pretty darn good cook, I am not a good baker. I tend to like to improvise and I find baking to be more like chemistry and therefore less successful with my 'experimental' style. So in order to maintain the appearance of Home-ecky excellence, I have to come up with ways to startle and amaze that are, well. . . cheating. My motto, fake it when you bake it.

Here's the recipe to make it from scratch:

1 teaspoon vanilla (or not, if you used vanilla sugar)

Bake at 350 until tops are golden brown.

We are not big fans of frosting here, so I am afraid that you're on your own with that. Left to me I'd probably buy the aerosol squeeze can or something else horrible.

If you are really unsure about your baking skills, you can simply buy a white cake mix and substitute orange pop for the water.
