Sunday’s matinee performance includes an additional abridged version of Swan Lake, performed by YBC’s Youth Corp, and a free “royal gift” for all children in attendance.

Sharon Wehner, principal ballerina with the Colorado Ballet, will dance the roles of Odette, the enchanted princess, and Odile, the black swan. She has performed such roles as Kitri in Don Quixote, Giselle in Giselle, Medora in Le Corsaire, Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, Swanilda in Coppelia, Mina in Dracula, Juliet in Romeo & Juliet, the Principal couple in Balanchine’s Stars and Stripes and Rubies, Antony Tudor’s Leaves are Fading, and Twyla Tharpe’s In The Upper Room ~ as well as the dual role of Odette/Odile in Colorado Ballet’s recent production of Swan Lake.

Dmitry Trubchanov will dance the role of the Prince, who dooms his true love to a life as a swan because of his mistaken vow to Odile.  Currently a principal dancer with the Colorado Ballet, Trubchanov trained at the prestigious Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, school of the Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia. And performed with the Kirov Ballet Company after graduation from the school. He has danced internationally in Japan, Holland, France, Portugal, Austria, Turkey and Korea, performing leading roles in Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Giselle, Le Corsaire, Faust, Romeo & Juliet, La Bayadere, and Raymonda.

The role of Von Rothbart, the evil magician who transforms young maidens into swans, will be performed by Bozeman’s Chris Taddiken. Mr. Taddiken has a B.A. in Dance and Choreography from Mercyhurst College, and has performed with the Michigan Opera Theatre and Center Dance Ensemble. The corp de ballet and character roles include dancers form Yellowstone Ballet School and Main Street Dance Theatre.

Youngsters are invited to attend the 2pm matinee which, alongside the professional version, includes a one act presentation directed by eleven-year-old Fiona Lee. Miss Lee was recently accepted to American Ballet Theatre's Young Dancer Program in New York and will dance the lead role of Odette/Odile in the junior production. Kathleen Rakela, YBC artistic director, decided to include the junior production as an inspiration both to the student performers and audience. “It is amazing to see what these young people have done and all the work that was put into the youth show,” Rakela said.
