teeny tiny idle hands. . .

As I sit here typing out thoughts on my laptop, I'm struggling a little bit. Usually I am quick with the keystrokes - familiar with all kinds of shortcuts and not needing to look at my fingers. But, see. . . my two-and-a-half year old daughter has plucked the TAB, CAPS LOCK and F6 clean off. To fool myself  when I am merely browsing the web or streaming the Elmo Slide off YouTube for the tots I lightly place the torn off keys in their respective spots. Thus minimizing the visual evidence of the chaos that reigns.

Adding insult to injury, about two-and-a-half years ago my son who is now five did the same dratted thing. Of course, this is fixable damage. I can just take my Mac down to Gordon and he replaces the keyboard for $50.00, but I can't ever resist having the rest of the thing serviced while it's in the shop. Full-on clean install and the like. Which of course puts my trusty workhorse out of commission for a week. Sheesh.

This is only a tiny smidgen of what my monkeys get up to. I haven't told you about the $4.58 that the Saab dealer pulled out of the CD player in our car. That fix took about $300 and two trips to Billings. The kids just seemed so happy and occupied while we let them pretend drive. We felt so smart about finding a way to contain our smalls and have a grown-up conversation. We were standing right there and the windows were open. It seems almost impossible that we didn't discover that they were taking the change from the console and popping it in there like a piggy bank until CDs started skipping when turning a corner.

I know I'm not alone in this. What kind of havoc have your small people wreaked?
