Sweaty Bettys at Altitude Athletics

A few weeks ago I noticed a friend who was tagged in a picture on Facebook.

In the picture (seen above) she is at a warehouse style gym, on the floor, pulling a weighted bag towards herself with a rope. She's smiling. And I am having visions of what that must feel like. Is there a Jillian Michaels type character hollering at her in the background? Could I survive a Biggest Loser style workout? All very real questions that loom in my psyche as I work on my fitness and contemplate trying something new.

Now, let me say that this is a gal that I have the utmost respect for. She's really smart, no bull-pucky, able, capable and super athletic. She is the kind of mama who goes out and kills it in athletic challenges, but she's also been truly encouraging to me on my little fitness journey thus far.

So I went ahead and got in touch with trainer, Melissa Duff, to tell her a little bit about our Mommy on a Mission fitness blogging here at Montana Parent. She invited me to come and give it a whirl. Full disclosure, Melissa is a little Jillian Michaels-ish. . . the late in the season Jillian who is full of encouragement and affirmations about just doing it, not the Jillian who swears at you like her hair is on fire.

Being that it's Monday. . . I was running a little teensy-tiny bit late. I got my kid to school on time but now I have to high tail it across town. Nothing worse than being the new kid in class and drawing attention to yourself by being late, sheesh! As I am sipping my coffee in the car (btw, don't drink coffee right before heading into a workout) on the way there, nerves getting to me a little. . . I wonder if Melissa is going to make me do a punitive set of crunches. Dang it.

Of course, that wasn't the case. She had her hands full, directing the 10 women who were already midway through an intensive warm-up. She let me ease into the room. Telling me I could observe or jump in, she was off to correct some form. I took a seat out of the way and got acclimated.

But first, I am going to file this puppy down and paint it bright pink as a badge of honor.

All my best, BunnyFufu
