About the Author:

Amber Dusick was a sleep-deprived mother of two when she sat down to write her first blog post at CrappyPictures.com . Her pictures were admittedly crappy, but her hilarious take on parenting made the site an overnight success. She lives in Los Angeles with her not-at-all-crappy husband, two sons and two black cats. She also has a fish but usually leaves him out of bios.

You know what's awesome about working with words? Pre-release review copies of books! I just love reading and books and humor. And every now and again something lands in the mail that makes you smile or giggle or feel all fuzzy and warm. . . or at least not so alone on the parenting mothership. Yay!

The first line of the intro:

"Hi, I'm Crappy Mama. I have 2 kids. I call them Crappy Boy and Crappy Baby because I draw crappy pictures of them. They aren't actually crappy. Not usually. I also have a husband, Crappy Papa."

Going on, she says, "I started writing this because I was tired, frustrated and happy."

The book is awesome. Although not for everyone, obviously.

Humor is really tough. Because tone and content and point of views are surely not universal. With that being said, I really love this book. One of my first thoughts after I read it was that Amber Dusick has a real gift for expressing the nature of talking with and being around young children.

My sweetheart and I liken being parents of young kids to living out the most fullest and intense Survivor! episodes ever. The sleep deprivation, all of the body stuff; both yours and what comes out of your kids, and the social/psychological aspect of being around the teeny-tiny best-people-you-will-ever-know and experiencing the business of your day-to-day life in a whole new way. It makes your head spin.

It really is counter-intuitive how those tiny and adorable people can be so eye-poppingly funny with a well timed developmentally-appropriate although socially unacceptable bon-mots in one moment and then heartbreakingly sweet and civilized the next.

What else can I tell you? It's at times deliciously crass. Well, in truth. . . It is primarily, deliciously crass, all mixed together with a ton of heart.

You know those Autocorrect snafu posts that your friends sometimes link to on Facebook? It's rude and you don't want to think that you have a base sense of humor, yet you end up with tears because you are laughing so hard. That's how I felt reading the book.

Here is what other reviewers have said:

“Amber Dusick has transformed the truest, grittiest, and most cringe-inducing trials of parenting into something incredibly hysterical, poignant and meaningful.” -Mayim Bialik, author of Beyond the Sling, actress Big Bang Theory

“If you are a parent, or even just have or know a parent, you will love this book. It’s seriously impossible NOT to. I dare you to try.”  -Jill Smokler, New York Times bestselling author of Confessions of a Scary Mommy

“The drawings aren’t very good, Mama.” -Crappy Boy, age 5
