Munchkin’s Picks—Fun this Week

Here is what is happening this week, July 13-19, under the beautiful Big Sky!

This week is the Gallatin County Fair in Bozeman, this year the fair is called “Party in the Dirt.” I have already written a whole blog just for the Gallatin County Fair, check it out http://www.mtparent.com/blog/gallatin-county-fair.html.

In Whitefish they have a summer theatre camp from July 13-17 it is called “The Legend of the Lorax. It is being held at the I.A. O’Shaughnessy Center, One Central Ave. Whitefish, MT. Children entering first and second grades meet from 10am to noon. “Broadway Songbook Workshop,” for kids entering grades 6-9, meets from 1-4pm.

In Big Fork on July 14th there is the Rotary Hoedown. Enjoy music, food, dancing, and live and silent auctions. Chow down on country vittles, vino and brew by Chuckwagon Master Chef Dan Solberg. Moonshine is available at cash bar. Dress hoedown style for the photo booth, and polish up yer boots to kick up yer heels on the dance floor. Keep the wheels turning for the Rotary Bike Path and other great projects in the community. The Rotary Hoedown is from 3-8pm at the Brumar Estate, 29048 Broken Leg Rd.

The Great Northern Fair is also this week in Havre. The fair is July 15-19 at the Great Northern Fairgrounds. Blue ribbon fun is on tap with carnival thrills, exhibits and displays, and live entertainment. Highlights include NRA rodeo action Thursday and Friday and a demolition derby Saturday.

In Helena on July 18th there is something called “Chalk-Up Helena!” Expand your artistic horizons or spend some time with the whole family working on a chalk painting. Winning artists receive prizes. Registration is $5-$10. This event is from 9am to 4pm at the Downtown Helena Walking Mall.

In Butte, The World Museum of Mining is celebrating their 50th Anniversary on July 18th from10am to 2pm. Free admission, entertainment, and kids activities. Also on the 18th is the Montana Lineman’s Rodeo that starts at 8pm at the Butte Rodeo Grounds. A competition for Lineman, Equipment Operators, and Tree Trimmers. Fun for all ages. Bucket truck rides, bounce house, ladies pole climb, electric safety demonstrations and more.

Anaconda is having the 35th Annual Art in the Park at Washoe Park July 17-19. If you are near or in Anaconda I would definitely go to the Art in the Park, it is a great time for everyone. Featuring 80 juried art and craft booths, ethnic foods, and kids’ playground. Professional music entertainment daily will include John Andrew’s Band on Friday, Hot Rod Deluxe Saturday night along with other band booked including the Workers from Missoula, Heather Lingle Band and the Mike Bader Band. Friday is from noon to 8pm, Saturday is from 10am to 10pm, and Sunday is form 11am to 4:30pm.

Shannon is Montana Parent Magazine's intern for the summer. She is currently a senior at the University of Montana Western, she just received her Associates degree and in a year will have her Bachelors. She is a Butte native with strong Irish roots. She doesn't have kids of her own yet but she has 4 dogs that she loves and treats as her own.
