Is there anything better than flying down the ski slopes at top speed, secure in the knowledge that your head is safely ensconced in a high-quality helmet? Why, yes, there is, thank you for asking, and it’s this: When said helmet is emblazoned with shimmering flames or a glittering tiara, of course.
This is the logic that slope Fairies co-founder (and Bozeman mom) Jennifer Bartholomew used on her daughter, Lily, last year when the 3-year-old balked at joining her big brothers on the slopes. and it worked. after her mom bedazzled her helmet with crystal gems, Lily embraced both her inner Lindsey Vonn and all the attention she garnered in her awesome headgear. “As soon as we hit the slopes,” Bartholomew said, “people started stopping us and asking about Lily’s helmet. she learned to ski and the helmet boosted her confidence to go out in the cold and ski safely.” Jennifer also enjoyed the added benefit of being able to easily spot her girl in a crowd or at a distance.
That was all it took for Bartholomew and her friend Julia deLozier (who met at great beginnings Montessori), to partner up and start the slope Fairies business right out of their homes. after the first helmet’s debut at Moonlight basin, the requests started flooding in and slope Fairies has now branched out to Arizona and Canada with helmets for boys, girls and moms in a variety of different designs (you can even customize your design to include a name on the back).
Jennifer and Julia use only Smith Holt helmets as their canvas. designed for skiing, snowboarding and summer use like ATV riding, skateboarding and biking, these babies are incredibly durable; and the insulation is removable for summer use. the children’s helmets are adjustable, so you can get a few years’ use out of them. But perhaps the coolest thing about slope Fairies – aside from the sparkly crystals, of course – is how homegrown this business is. Bartholomew makes the helmets herself along with Bozeman high school sophomore Emma Gannon, who designed the flame helmet and whose brother, ben, is the company’s graphic designer. Julia credits Bozeman’s Chamber of Commerce for helping her turn a business plan into a legitimate partnership.
Now, she and Jennifer are looking at the next phase of their business: an adorable waterproof and insulated snow skirt to keep tushies extra warm and protected.

Gallatin Valley Botanical is a small farm in Bozeman, Montana dedicated to the sustainable production of high quality produce. We started our farm with a shared love of each other, eating well, and the earth and have been providing beautiful fresh produce to our community since 2003.
Our CSA has become the backbone of our farm, helping to bring in steady, year round income. We work with nature to maintain soil fertility and balance insect pest problems, using crop rotation, beneficial insect attracting plantings, composted manure, and cover crops. Our produce is planted, picked, and washed by ourselves, CSA working members, and interns who are working with us to learn about small scale, direct market farming. We are continually working towards a financially and ecologically sustainable farm that can help feed our neighbors and build a community. Every year, we plan for a wide variety of clean, healthy, fresh veggies to be delivered weekly to neighborhoods in Bozeman, West Yellowstone, and Big Sky. Pick-up at the farm is also available.
Diversity is crucial to our success, in crop planning and in marketing. We grow up to 150 varieties of produce and market them to a 120 person CSA, twelve enlightened restaurants, the Community Food Coop, and two summer and one winter farmers markets in Bozeman.
