Bozemama Gives Thanks

Last night, for the first time in many years, we forgot our annual tradition of going around the Thanksgiving table and listing the things we are thankful for. We ended up eating a couple of hours later than we had initially planned (note to self: don’t hit the cancel button on the oven when you really just want to turn off the timer . . .) We were all so hungry by the time we sat down that we could barely lift our glasses in toast.

Anyway, it wasn’t until I was doing the dishes (which, to be clear, I am not thankful for) that I realized we had overlooked our little ritual. I guess we were all just really thankful to finally be stuffing our faces. But then my OCD tendencies kicked in and I thought I should take the opportunity to make my list, just to avoid becoming cursed and struck down for being a slacker and losing one of my favorite things as punishment. So smart, right?

And so here – in no particular order – are the things I am most thankful for right now:

-That my 10-year-old son still calls me “Mama”

-My eyelash curler

-That Target sells cheap Spanx called Assets

-That I have a tiny handful of fiercely loyal friends who love the weirdness of me and for whom I’d do anything

-Prosecco

-That my 14-year-old daughter talks to me and will still be seen in public with me

-That our family lives in a place where the sky is always stunning and always changing

-"The Onion"

-Our gas fireplace, which I initially thought might be cheesy, but is actually fabulous because it cozies up the house instantly at the flick of a switch

-The Merle Haggard station on Pandora

-Butter

-“Vikings,” on the History Channel. Makes me so happy.

-A tall Americano from the Daily

-That my gay friends can finally get married

-Macklemore’s “And We Danced” video

-That I have a job I love and get to work with women who make me laugh

-Cardio Party at the Ridge, the only exercise I’ve ever enjoyed

-My wicked, beautiful mother

-Modern appliances

-That I have health insurance

-Books by Ann Patchett

-The turkey sandwich I’m going to tuck into later today

And, dear readers, I also thank you for spending a little time with me every once in a while. Have a fabulous weekend; you deserve it.

Kisses,

Bozemama
