Seaweed. Nope, I am not kidding. I think they like it because it is novel. It has a weird texture and an unfamiliar yummy taste. They like to tear and fold it and sometimes it sticks to the roof of your mouth. Which is always a hoot. Kids love visceral experiences and this snack provides!

To make this really a truly tasty treat, you only need a few ingredients and it is ready in a snap.

  • Nori wraps
  • Olive oil
  • Granulated onion
  • Salt

All you do is put a pinch of salt and onion in a bowl with the oil, whisk. Brush it on the seaweed. Toast it in the pan. When the seaweed turns a little lighter in color, it's done. Tada!

According to Livestrong.com :

"Most seaweeds are high in essential amino acids, which makes them valuable sources of vegetable protein in a vegetarian or mostly meatless diet.

Like most land vegetables, seaweeds contain vitamins A (beta carotene) and C. Seaweeds are rich in potassium, iron, calcium, iodine and magnesium because these minerals are concentrated in sea water. They are also one of the few vegetable sources of vitamin B-12."

There are also commercial brands available and cost wise they are similar to making it for yourself with the local prices in Bozeman. One brand that is a favorite in our house is Sea Snax . I've bought them at Roseauer's and the co-op. Really good texture and flavor, plus they make many varieties.
