The Helena Valley Flood Committee, along with County partners, will sponsor a free, three-part series of community workshops to help residents prepare for potential flooding in the Helena Valley this spring. Each workshop will have a unique focus:
Part 1: Flooding in the Helena Valley, Jan. 24
The science behind why and how flooding occurs intermittently in the Helena Valley. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Our Redeemer’s Church, 3580 N. Benton Ave.
Part 2: Planning and Preparing for Floods, Feb. 28
How to best prepare for floods as an individual and as a neighborhood, including updates from the county on projects aimed at controlling and mitigating floodwaters. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Our Redeemer’s Church, 3580 N. Benton Ave.
Part 3: Hands-On Preparedness Fair, March 2
A family-friendly event with informational booths and activities, including sandbagging practice and tutorials. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., location to be announced. The fair will provide resources related to wildfire and other hazards, as well as flooding.
