Leaders in Training/LIT

Description: Our LIT program is designed for older youth who want to be involved in a camp setting. This program will help and encourage them to develop as a leader in camp as well as their community. LIT’s receive coaching in leadership and childcare skills and are provided opportunities to practice these skills in a safe and exciting setting. *Each week is a separate session, Session 1 is a prerequisite for Session 2.

Session 1: This session will focus on preparing and training our teens with the goal of providing them with the skills to be a leader in camp and in our community. Teens will be coached through tasks that encourage them to become better leaders and role models. These tasks include activity planning, camper supervision, team building, with an emphasis on communication, building self-esteem, and relationship building. At the end of the week, the LIT’s will have the opportunity to put the skills they’ve been learning all week into action, by leading group activities with younger campers.

Session 2: Session two is intended to build on session 1. This week LIT’s will participate in a number of activities that are aimed at building their own unique leadership skills; team building, values sessions, positive role modeling and problem solving. This week will provide LIT’s with opportunities to shadow some of our best camp staff in an area of camp that they choose. LIT’s will be encouraged practice their skills by developing and leading activities and games, and by building relationships with younger campers. LIT’s will also accompany our younger campers on field trips, learning first-hand what it takes to be a camp counselor, including becoming certified in CPR/1st Aid.
