Extreme Yellowstone Expedition is a five-day overnight adventure for students entering grades 7-9 in the fall. The American Explorers Basecamp is located on Hyalite Creek on the east side of the Gallatin Range in the spectacular Paradise Valley of Montana. It will be the hub for lodging, meals and science experiences. It is the perfect jumping off location for campers to explore Yellowstone Park. The Basecamp offers ready access to a rich variety of natural habitats onsite as well as the adjacent Custer-Gallatin National Forest. Grassland, shrub-steppe, montane forest, and riparian habitats are all well represented, making for a rich outdoor classroom. The private nature of this site allows for a greater flexibility and level of innovation. The end result enriches the imagination and sense of adventure that leads to impactful learning. Campers will explore the fascinating world of science in the world’s first national park. Learning activities are biology and geology related. Students can expect to hike 5 +/- miles daily to experience Grand Prismatic Spring, Old Faithful, Yellowstone Falls and the Lamar Valley, often called America’s Serengeti for its large and easy-to-see populations of large animals. Recreation activities include horseback riding and whitewater rafting on the Yellowstone River. Campers will also enjoy and be challenged by the high ropes course. The cost of this camp is $1,000 for all five days and four nights. Included in the cost of the camp is transportation, housing, meals and snacks and all learning and recreational activities. Students leave from Montana Learning Center on Sunday afternoon and return there on Thursday after the camp. Special thanks to our cosponsor AMB-West for providing the basecamp. AMB West, LLC, is a new operating entity of AMB Group and currently includes West Creek Ranch, a 6,300-acre working ranch bordered by the Yellowstone River and Gallatin National Forest. AMB West offers a new platform for promoting sustainability and protecting wildlife habitats.
